Why local tourism associations exhibit at the Disaster Prevention Solutions Exhibition

The Disaster Prevention Industry Exhibition is an exhibition showcasing new technologies and solutions related to disaster prevention, mitigation, and crisis management, and serves as a business matching venue for companies, local governments, and disaster prevention-related organizations. The Minamisanriku Town Tourism Association, an organization responsible for promoting tourism in the region, has been working with local storyteller guides, local government, and local businesses to promote disaster prevention education and disaster heritage since immediately after the disaster. Since 2011, we have provided disaster prevention programs to a total of 3,400 organizations and over 140,000 people, including companies, educational institutions, government agencies, and local organizations. Starting in 2022, we have been responsible for managing the Minamisanriku 3/11 Memorial, the town's disaster heritage facility, and are offering learning programs for groups and individuals visiting the town, based on the theme, "If you were there, how would you make decisions and act?" As the gateway to the region, our tourism association has played a key role in connecting visitors with the diverse stakeholders who experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake and facilitating life-saving actions. Our participation in this Disaster Prevention Industry Exhibition is also an effort to share the practical knowledge gained from the earthquake with even more companies and local governments across the country, and to contribute to “creating a society that is prepared for natural disasters'' beyond the boundaries of our region.
