[Special Exhibition] Yawata River and the Town - Memories of those days - Photo Exhibition

[Special Exhibition] The Yawata River and the Town – Memories of those days – Photo Exhibition will be held from Wednesday, October 15th.

Once upon a time, days flowed peacefully along the banks of the Yahata River.
This photo exhibition is a collection of photographs of the Yawata River and nostalgic townscapes before the earthquake, taken by Hideaki Sato, a local bicycle shop owner, in his spare time during his daily work.

People passing by the river, seasonal events, casual moments from everyday life…

These photographs, taken from a perspective rooted in the local area, are not just landscapes, but valuable records that reflect our memories and hearts.

Not just to reminisce about the lost landscape, but to pass on to the next generation the message that "there was a time like this."
We hope that this photo exhibition will provide an opportunity for people to rediscover the precious memories of the region.

Born in Shizugawa, Minamisanriku Town, Miyagi Prefecture in 1948.
After graduating from Ishinomaki Technical High School in Miyagi Prefecture, he worked as a salesman for a car dealership before taking over the family bicycle shop in Shizugawa, Minamisanriku Town in 1982.
After serving as deputy commander of the Minamisanriku Town Traffic Guidance Team, he is currently involved in traffic safety activities as the head of the Shizugawa branch of the Traffic Safety Association.
About seven years ago, he became fascinated with photography through an internet blog, and since then, taking photographs of the beautiful seas, mountains, and rivers of Minami Sanriku has become a part of his life.
In the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, his home, located right next to the disaster prevention center, was washed away, and all of the photographs he had taken over the years were lost.
However, the approximately 1,000 photographs he had entrusted to an acquaintance miraculously returned to him, and this book features selected photos from among them.
