[First time] Announcement of Minamisanriku Culture Festival

On Saturday, March 29th, the Minami Sanriku 311 Memorial will be holding the Minami Sanriku Culture Festival, which will include a live event called "Candle Night" and a screening of the film "Goodbye Hoyaman."

The Minami Sanriku Culture Festival was planned with the hope that it would provide an opportunity for people from inside and outside the town to gather and create and deepen connections through cultural events such as music and movies that people of all generations can participate in and share their thoughts.

Nostalgic music, softly lit candles, and a movie that will make you laugh and cry.

We hope to spend a warm and relaxing time together with all our townspeople and visitors from outside the town.

<Candle Night Just for tonight>

It started in 2017, bringing together musicians and candle artists from the prefecture who experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake.

This is a free candlelit event featuring live music centered around cover songs popular with people of all ages.

So far, the event has been held mainly in coastal areas such as Kesennuma, Shichigahama, and Watari. It has also been held live for disaster prevention classes at schools.

This is a heartwarming live event where adults who experienced the earthquake and children who did not can come together to reminisce about that day and feel hope for the future.

*In the event of bad weather, the event will be held indoors.

<Screening of the movie "Goodbye Hoyaman">

The film, directed by Ishinomaki-born director Shoji Teruaki, will be screened in and outside the prefecture in 2023 and has been highly praised by various celebrities. Set on a remote island in Ishinomaki, the film tells the story of two fisherman brothers who lost their parents in the earthquake disaster.

The story of two brothers who have barely left the island, but who start living with a female manga artist from outside the island, gradually changes their environment and way of thinking, and grows as they come to terms with their own trauma, is sure to bring hope to the hearts of all who watch.
