[Visit Report] TRICOROL from Tokiwa University visits us

On Sunday, September 8th, members of "TRICOROL," a student group active at Tokiwa University in Ibaraki Prefecture, visited our museum.

The members of "TRICOROL" are involved in activities such as supporting children in the local area and supporting earthquake recovery efforts. This time, they visited Minamisanriku Town with the aim of deepening their understanding of disaster prevention from the current situation in the disaster-stricken areas, thinking about decisions and actions in emergencies as if they were their own through the learning program, and thinking about new learning opportunities regarding disaster prevention.

The learning program you saw this time was regular program 1, "Evacuation that means the difference between life and death."

Based on video testimony from residents who faced the difference between life and death at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake, participants will learn how people acted and how they spent the bitterly cold night with all communication with the outside world cut off. They will also discuss with each other what kind of ultimate preparations are needed to protect lives from natural disasters.

After the event, many of the participants seemed satisfied, saying things like, "The learning program felt like we were listening closely to the voices of the disaster victims," and "We learned a lot more than we expected and are glad we participated."

The representative shared his impressions, "This time I participated in a program to learn about evacuation procedures. Before participating, I thought that evacuation procedures in the event of a disaster were set, and that I should just act as I did in evacuation drills. However, through the program I learned that evacuation procedures must be changed depending on the type of disaster, and that I must act at my own discretion depending on the severity of the disaster situation at the time."

Thank you to everyone at TRICOROL for visiting us.
