The Minamisanriku 311 Memorial will be holding a special exhibition of a model of the former Minamisanriku Town Hall Disaster Prevention Building until the end of March.
This model was made and donated by Mr. Ogake Noboru of Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture.
If you cross Nakabashi Bridge, which you can see from the memorial, and walk through the Earthquake Disaster Reconstruction Memorial Park, you will immediately see the actual former Disaster Prevention Office Building on your left. Standing in front of the building, you can actually see that the memorial and Minamisanriku San San Shopping Street were built on land that was raised by about 10.8 meters, and you can get a sense of how powerful the tsunami was that hit the building.
Additionally, in the exhibition gallery inside the Memorial Hall, you can watch video testimonies from people who survived the tsunami that hit this building.
We look forward to welcoming you to our museum.
