The Minamisanriku 311 Memorial will be holding a special exhibition, "1960 Newspaper Exhibition: Learning from the Lessons of the Chilean Earthquake and Tsunami," from May 17th.
<Dates> Wednesday, May 17th – Monday, June 12th
<Time> 9:00-17:00
Closed: Every Tuesday
At the entrance to the museum, we will be exhibiting an article from the Kahoku Shimpo newspaper published on May 24, 1960, reporting on the Chilean earthquake and tsunami. At the time, an earthquake occurred off the coast of Chile in South America, reaching the Sanriku coast and causing many casualties in Minamisanriku. This experience of disaster became the basis for Minamisanriku's disaster prevention plan before the Great East Japan Earthquake. This exhibit will teach people how to prepare to protect their lives, based on the lessons learned from natural disasters that have repeatedly occurred and caused unexpected damage.
We look forward to seeing you there.
